Perils of Paid Projects

April 21st, 2006

Oofff !! paid projects! They are really goddamn useless. I know, if you had got a paid project, you would have experienced it. Ok ok, if you are not aware of what im talking about, its about the final semester project for BE students, specifically CSE and IT people. Almost every friend of mine studying BE, paid to get their projects done. What they do is, they go a project center, pay Rs.3000 or more per head (if its a group project) and buy all the powerpoint presentations that we should be presenting for every review, all the source code and full documentation. Now, thats cool, atleast by the look of it.

Many people i know, who paid for such projects, got paid for paying them. First, they don’t get any working knowledge of the technology on which the project is based on. Second, most of the paid projects just won’t work. Third, my final review was today and people were configuring their projects on the college computers. The moment they copied all the files and executed the project, they got a “File Not Found” error. Wondering what had happened, they copied everything again and ran the project; still the same error !!!???!!!

Those idiots at the project center, wrote a small snippet of code that will erase all the files during execution if the date is on or after 2nd April 2006. Imagine all those people configuring the project and during the review, it crashes on the face of the external examiner. That is sad. Who should be blamed here? The students or the project centers??

My answer will be the students. As long as there are people who get cheated, there will be cheaters. They have got 3 full months to learn a technology and implement a decent enough project. Only when you implement a project, you will really learn a technology, its working and how you can make the current version of your project better. The external examiner today asked us to open source code of the project. He pointed at an arbitrary function and asked us to explain its working. Since we did the project on our own, we were able to answer. All those people who got paid projects are doomed for sure ๐Ÿ™ :((. They just cannot explain the source code of the project, let alone understand the technology behind it.

To all my juniors, Guys, NEVER go for paid projects. They will make your life miserable. Even if you had never learnt anything in all the 4 years, this 3 months is enough to learn and implement a decent enough project. The main purpose of projects in the last semester is to test your working knowledge. When the paid project you give is not going to give you the knowledge you want, then what is the use of paying Rs.3000 per head?? Think and look before you leap.

ALL THE BEST !

And sorry if i had hurt anyone’s feelings. I hope this has opened the eyes of my juniors.

    Well said dude…. It was the same case for many of my friends who had beg others to make it run somehow….

    More pathetic was the paid projecs were incomplete….As they had knew nothing of the proj or tech used, the had been easily cheated…oly when some of us tested it we found out that there was not enough code to run those modules…

    Oly to blame the students who go for it…….

    well..lemme giv it from a eee student’s perspective..

    here ppl pay ard 15-20K for a proj..and i for once feel the projects given by these centers are beyond the student level…and also u get to learn nothin..

    on the other hand, though my work is very simple i claim for authenticity for it…

  4. Yuvi Panda Says:

    Yikes. I never knew that College People do that. Whatever Projects we do at school, even if they suck, we do it ourselves:D

    And, probably, most code written by those Centers would endup on the DailyWTF as well:D

    @santosh:
    Precisely, the same thing happened in our college too

    @logic:
    why dude?

    @kar:
    Right da, the examiner can easily find out whether the project was done by the students or not. Donno, whom they r trying to cheat ๐Ÿ˜‰

    @yuvi:
    ha ha ha, it happens and it will continue to happen. Let the world spit on the project centers at DailyWTF ๐Ÿ™‚

    Something in your sidebar is too wide, and it is making your content (posts) get pushed to the bottom on some computers.

    Hey,

    The root cause for all these kind of issues are lack of interest towards the technology and tendency to learn the subject. If the students are ready to invest money to get their projects done, they deserve this. Why can’t they invest their valuable time in understanding the technology? There are lot more ways to learn the technology apart of the college lesson rooms..

    As an old hindi saying … “Pyasa Kuyen ke pass jatha hai …” And i feel it is true. One has to search for the knowledge, and that attitude is not there in now-a-days students.

    We find the same kind of attitude in getting the job also… how many stories you hear from people around you saying that you get a job by paying 60K and you will paid about 3K per month and you have to work with them for a period of year… blah blah …

    Just think why people are ready for these kind of things… as just they don’t have the knowledge. Just lack of Knowledge. As long as this tendency is not going to change fromt these kids, you will read such posts again and again.

    I agree that students should avoid paid projects and they must start implementing projects on their own BUT the college management and the officials do not allow self conceptual projects . They want IEEE published journals to be implemented which is 100% impossible by a final year student . So I would equally blame the college managements for indirectly inculcating the habit of buying Engineering projects to match the so called expected IEEE standard . Colleges must start encouraging new and simple concepts so that the students can explore and do a good job rather they are pushed to buy with such kind of unwanted standards .
