The First Step

May 14th, 2013

The excitement in the air is palpable. They are standing outside the door of their house, on the brink of a new life. No words are conveyed. They know. They can feel it. A kid like joy overtakes them & they giggle uncontrollably. The kid in him takes a toe and places it inside and quickly withdraws it. She smiles and for a moment their eyes catch each other. Their fingers intertwine and press against each other. The giggle erupts into laughter. Slowly she cups her mouth with her other hand to reduce the noise :)

“On your mark, get set, GO” is the mental count they have. At an absolutely synchronous opportune moment, without a spoken word, both of them lift their right foot off the ground, look at each other, smile & hand-in-hand place it firmly inside the house. The other foot follows. Wave after wave of hitherto unfelt feelings explode inside them.

The new “Mahalakshmi” looks for the light switch & he points it out. Still clasping his hand, she turns on the mains of their new home. Tic-tic-tic… lights flash everywhere. A radiant smile blossoms on her face. Her eyes meets his again. No words are spoken and yet so much is communicated. As they continue to look deeply into each other, he moves forward towards her. His head tilts. Her heads tilts too. He moves his hand to her hips and presses her against him. One tiny smile is all they know. The next moment, their lips take over… as if they have a life on their own. After what seem like hours, their lips part & they smile again… thoroughly excited at the new beginning!!
