@actran:
You are talking about a regular job with a nice pay packet etc. But all this will not help create the "startup environment" that many of us look toward to.

When guys at the silicon valley develop cool products/services, we drool over them and start complaining about how bad our country is for creating such things.

Its upto us to change/create it. Service companies have to exist. Its only because of them that lot of money has started flowing in. What I'm trying to tell is that its high time we start experimenting and create "products" rather than remain as plain popular outsourcing destination.

i perfectly accept this, but I don't see what the so-called "programmers" are bitching about?

Arn't good pay packages for just a mediocre degree earned after four years of technical school not sufficient?

dude,
this is cultural change..it will takes generations to change the attitude.

And remember no job is bad if it provides some meaningful service to your fellow human beings and it is just relative and no point in attaching tags of meritocracy. You should remember somebody should do technical support and maintenance job to make any great product to be used by thousands. You cannot blame indina service companies..if they did not pioneered these things...may be these jobs would have been done by engineers in china or brazil or russia and Indian young people would be on roads as it is happening in Africa.

@anon:
1. I don't know who you are. Show your face before you put down a comment next time. Otherwise I will be forced to think that you are peeing in your pants at the very sight of me :D
2. I'm nowhere near "geeks" per se.
3. You do not know enough about me to comment about me.

I have a lot more to tell but I won't talk unless you show your face.
